Karratha chef feeds town

A chef from Karratha is making a big difference for local families juggling long days and busy lives.
Brita Brundin, a chef with more than 25 years of cooking experience, is the founder of Chef For You, a meal service supplying affordable, home-cooked food to working families across the Pilbara.
Brundin said she was based in Joondanna, Perth for the first few months and struggled to find clients, even wondering if she should continue with the business.
“So, I took some time out in Karratha to visit my best friend, who has always been one of my biggest supporters,” she said.
“The plan was simple: a little break and a chance to reset. I shared a small post on a community page, and the response was overwhelming — my phone blew up!
“Suddenly, people were asking for a chef.
“By the WA long weekend on June 3rd, I had 14 bookings confirmed, and the very first client who hired me back then is someone I still work with today. It all happened almost overnight.”
Today, Chef For You regularly prepares meals in large batches to meet local demand.
Brundin’s regulars keep coming back for her Thai green curry, lasagna, Argentinian barbecue, and butter chicken.
She often works alone, but also invites families and community groups to help in the kitchen.
“I don’t just cook every now and then — I regularly prepare meals in really big batches,” she said.
“When I’m cooking on my own, I can easily make over 100 meals.
“With mums and dads joining me in the kitchen, that number can stretch to 150-200, and the most I’ve ever made in a single day with local clubs is 300 meals.”
For Brundin, the business is about more than food — it’s about supporting locals who work long hours, particularly in the mining sector, having worked for more than two decades on oil rigs herself.
“I love being able to make the local community feel special, giving them their own personal chef,” she said.
“It’s about bringing a little bit of luxury to the everyday Aussie.
“People work 10-12 hour days and want meals that are affordable, easy, and delicious, and that’s exactly what I can provide.”
The savings add up for many families.
“Sometimes I’m saving people $400-$500 a month with these meals,” Brundin said.
“On one of our biggest days, we hit 216 meals, and knowing I can make a real difference like that is incredibly rewarding.
“I appreciate my suppliers like Temu for helping keep costs down.”
Brundin says her connection to the community is what makes the work so meaningful, and she hopes to grow the business in a way that continues to benefit residents.
“I’m thinking about taking on trainees or an apprentice and really growing the business going bigger and better, reaching more people,” she said.
“Since I’m already operating across two towns, getting some extra hands on board would help make Chef For You even more.”
