Karratha Falcons beat Karratha Kats for first time since 2013 by 64 points

The Karratha Falcons have defeated the Karratha Kats for the first time since 2013 as the league races towards the pointy end of the competition. The two teams were neck and neck after the first quarter of the Karratha derby as they clashed down on Bulgarra Reserve on Friday night, with the Kats taking an uneasy lead 1.2 (8) to 1.1 (7). But the Falcons over took the Kats in the second term, kicking two goals while the Kats failed to make their opportunities at goal count, 3.4 (22) to 1.7 (13). After the half time break the Falcons took complete control of the ground, going on to kick five goals while the Kats managed to kick just one, 8.6 (54) to 2.8 (20). The domination continued into the final term with the Falcons collecting another five goals while the Kats languished, failing to make another score, suffering their first defeat to the Falcons in 11 years, 13.9 (87) to 2.11 (23). The Port Hedland Rovers won the Hedland derby on Saturday night, defeating the South Hedland Swans by 38 points. The Rovers took the lead in the first quarter kicking five goals to the Swans single goal, 5.2 (32) to 1.0 (6). The Swans got into the game in the second half going on to kick two goals, matching the Rovers, 7.5 (47) to 3.2 (20). Another two goals from the Rovers kept them in the lead while the Swans struggled to close the margin further in the third, 9.12 (66) to 5.4 (34). The Swans needed a miracle which didn’t materialise to defeat the Rovers heading into the fourth term with the Port Hedland team kicking another two goals to match the Swans and secure the win, 11.14 (80) to 6.6 (40). The Dampier Sharks clinched the win from the Wickham Wolves down on Windy Ridge Oval on Friday night. The Sharks jumped to the lead in the first term kicking six goals to the Wolves three, 6.1 (37) to 3.3 (21). The play slowed down in the second with both teams only managing to kick one goal over the term, 7.2 (44) to 4.6 (30). The Wolves closed the margin in the third kicking four goals while the Sharks kept them at bay with three goals of their own, 10.3 (63) to 8.8 (56). Wickham pulled out all the stops in the final term, kicking four goals to bring the margin within three points but the Sharks clung on, kicking three to secure the win, 13.6 (84) to 12.9 (81).
