Medal haul for club

It was another successful competition for Sang-Rock Hedland Judo Club after competing in the 2017 Judo Federation Association State Titles.

The Hedland club sent 33 competitors to Perth last month — a 23-hour bus drive — and successfully brought back 19 medallists.

The club now boasts six new State titleholders, nine silver medallists and four bronze medallists with their youngest State titleholder just eight years old.

Head coach Daniel Zammit said he was incredibly proud of all the competitors who endured more than 40 hours of travel time to get to the competition and back.

“It’s really a testament to the work that goes on both on the mats and behind the scenes,” he said.

“We’ve got an amazing committee, which does a huge amount work and coaching staff with all the parents and players who all rally behind sport.”

The club also came out with 18 competitors nominated and selected for the West Australian team to compete at the State titles later this year.
