The Shire of East Pilbara is hoping to attract participants from around the region as it prepares for the Newman Half Marathon and Family Fun Run.

Competitors have the flexibility of running the 21.1km half marathon, or taking on a number of distance races, including a 7km and 4km event.

Shire of East Pilbara chief executive Allen Cooper said there were events to suit all abilities, including the 2.4km Family Fun Run, which was a favourite among locals.

“The event is designed to cater for the most competitive participants as well as families and groups who just want to have a great day being active in the wonderful Pilbara outdoors,” he said.

“It is a great time of year for travelling and exploring our wonderful region and the climate is conducive to outdoor sporting events.

“We would like to encourage people who do not live in Newman to consider entering the event and having a great weekend away.”

The Corporate Cup will be awarded in the 7km race, which involves teams of four competitors, and other great prizes will also be awarded on the day.

The Newman Half Marathon is on Sunday, July 31, starting at 7am.

Registration enquiries can be made at the Newman Recreation Centre and registration forms are available on the Shire of East Pilbara website.
