Newman’s new Youth and Community Hub makes progress as council endorses the final concept for the project. The concept will now go out for public consultation after it was unanimously supported by Shire of East Pilbara councillors at the ordinary council meeting on Friday, September 29. The proposed 3300sqm site will contain a movie room, half a basketball court, a computer hub, a tourist nook, and a barbecue area among many other facilities. During the meeting, Shire President Anthony Middleton said the project’s design had had a great deal of community input so he believed the public consultation period would be successful. “I know there was consultation with over 360 youth in relation to this as well,” he said. “So that’s a good start to get buy-in from the people that actually use the facility and we will move forward.” Cox Architecture is responsible for the design of the facility. In 2022 they undertook a community engagement consultation period to collect feedback to inform the design of the facility. The final concept will be displayed on the Shire’s website with an invitation to the community to comment. The relevant feedback will be considered by Cox Architecture. The consultation period runs from October 2 until October 22.
