Port Hedland chalked up a win against Karratha in their first ever game since the team was organised earlier this year.

The score at the end was 5-3 and both teams are hopeful more towns in the North West will get involved to get the fledgling competition off the ground.

Player-coach Alana Bennet was happy with the result and said everyone played well.

"I was really happy… we've got a few things to improve on but I'm looking forward to the next one," she said.

"We're hoping to have another game towards the end of the month against Karratha, when the men's teams travel down there.

"It's a good game and a bit of a muck-around out there, but we had a lot of fun."

Bennet said while the whole team put in a great effort, Erin Pocket had a standout game for Port Hedland, getting two goals under her belt.

"The other (player-coach) Lindsay Andrews did really well too and held the team together in defense," she said.

At the moment, there are just the two teams, but Bennet is hopeful they will be able to expand the competition to include Broome and Newman.

"We tried to organise something with Newman, but I'm not sure if they've got a team," she said.

"Hopefully at the end of the year or later on in the season, we can organise a round robin (tournament) where we get Broome, Newman and Karratha together to have a weekend of soccer."
