Regional towns warned of severe thunderstorms

Pilbara, Gascoyne and South Interior districts are being warned to take action and stay safe with thunderstorms predicted to hit.

Locations which may be affected include Newman, Jigalong and Three Rivers.

The Bureau of Meteorology advised that severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area during the afternoon and into early this evening.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises locals to find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams, unplug electrical appliances and if driving slow down, turn lights on an not to drive in water of unknown depth.

Main Roads have limited various roads to high clearance 4WD’s and trucks only including Marble Bar to Roy Hill Village Access Road, Roy Hill Village Road to Ethell Creek Jigalong Intersection and Marble Bar to Telfer Turn-off.
