Review program to give Town efficiency a boost

Taylar AmoniniNorth West Telegraph

The Town of Port Hedland is set to improve its processes by participating in a Governance Review Program.

In December, The Town was invited by the Department of Local Government and Communities to participate in a series of free programs to assist local governments across the State during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 financial years.

The program aims to assist country local governments in transparency and account-ability, consolidation of procedures and processes, particularly in the areas of financial management, resources, risk mitigation, and efficiency.

The review program was made possible as part of the additional funding of $5.4 million provided through the Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund.

The Town will now work with the department in partnership with the Australian Institute of Company Directors to identify two to three key areas for the Town to improve on in the course of the financial year.

The free program will involve surveys and interviews conducted with Town of Port Hedland employees and councillors to identify the key areas of improve-ment.
