Roads close as water levels rise
People in the De Grey River catchment have been advised to take action as minor flooding is expected over today and tomorrow.
After a bought of severe weather earlier in the week, rivers including the Nullagine River, Oakover River and Coongan River have become fast flowing and levels are rising rapidly.
Due to the flooding roads have been closed and restricted in the following areas:
Ripon Hills Road is closed to all vehicles in both directions from Marble Bar to Telfer Turn Off.
Marble Bar Road is closed to all vehicles in both directions from Roy Hill Village Access Road to Ethel Creek Jigalong Intersection.
Marble Bar Road from Marble Bar to Nullagine is open but extreme caution is advised due to water over the road in floodways.
Marble Bar Road from Ethel Creek intersection (Jigalong Community) to Newman is open but extreme caution is advised due to water over the road and in floodways.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises locals to keep vigilant on watching changes in water levels to be ready to evacuate, relocate equipment and livestock to ensure they don’t get caught in flood waters and to pack a relocation kit.
Drivers are warned to be careful when crossing floodways, not to drive into water of unknown depth and to take care on gravel and unsealed roads as they may be slippery and muddy.
