Seed storage approved

Taylar AmoniniNorth West Telegraph

A native seed supplier will soon be able to store in Marble Bar after its development application was approved by the Shire of East Pilbara.

SE and NA Johns supplies native seed to Pilbara mining companies to use for the rehabilitation of mine sites.

While the Town Planning Scheme did not preclude approving the development, council approval was sought to ensure the warehouse contributed in a positive way to the streetscape.

The new warehouse, which will be at the site of the old Marble Bar General Store, will be home to about 10 tonne of seed at any one time and will be climate-controlled using temperature and humidity monitoring systems.

Currently seed is sent south for storage as there has previously been no location for sufficient seed storage.
