A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued today for Port Hedland.

Bureau of Meteorology have said Port Hedland should expect storms around 2:30pm today after satellite imagery showed a line of storms extending southward from the ocean.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the area over the next several hours and locations predicted to be affected include Port Hedland and Pardoo Roadhouse.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises people to be prepared by unplugging electrical appliances, stay indoors and if flooding occurs place sandbags around doorways to protect your home.
