The Town of Port Hedland has been offered the chance to participate in a Statewide improvement program initiative.

Department of Local Government and Communities is working with the Australian Institute of Company Directors to deliver a Governance Review Programs to assist local governments across the State.

Town of Port Hedland councillors will decide at the ordinary council meeting this week whether the Town will participate in the program.

The Governance Review Program is an initiative to assist selected councils with higher level improvements in their governance policies, strategic planning procedures and processes.

The initiative will focus on governance probability, transparency, accountability and consolidation of procedures and processes; in particular the areas on financial performance, resources, risk mitigation and efficiency in the performance of local government functions. The program will aim to identify two or three key areas for councils to improve and focus on over a number of years.

If councillors agree to participate in the Governance Review Program it will be at no cost to the Town.
