The City of Karratha is calling on young residents to nominate for its Youth Advisory Group, with applications now open for those aged 11 to 18.

The group provides a platform for local youth to contribute to community decision making while developing valuable leadership and teamwork skills.

YAG members collaborate with city councillors and staff, offering input on a range of projects and initiatives that impact young people and the broader community.

City of Karratha mayor Daniel Scott said the advisory group played a key role in representing youth perspectives in local government.

“Our Youth Advisory Group gives young people a real seat at the table,” Mayor Scott said.

“YAG members contribute ideas and feedback across a wide range of city activities, from youth development and events through to infrastructure and town planning.

“We are proud to support and empower young people to be active participants in our community.

“We strongly encourage anyone who has ideas and is passionate about our city to put their hand up, and make the City of Karratha an even better place to live.”

Through the program, members have the opportunity to influence initiatives affecting young people, while gaining insight into how local government operates.

Nominations close on Sunday, February 22.

Young people interested in applying can complete an expression of interest form via the City of Karratha website karratha.wa.gov.au
