Jayden Selfe: Police scour bushland north-east of Wanneroo for seventh day looking for missing man’s body

Police continue to search an “extensive area” north-east of Wanneroo for the seventh day, looking for the body of missing man Jayden Selfe amid fears he was killed before his remains were dumped in bushland. Police confirmed on Thursday morning, “the search is continuing today”. Mr Selfe hasn’t been heard from since early to mid-May, but police were only alerted to his disappearance in August. Forensic police and detectives have been searching a unit on Money Road, Attadale, which Mr Selfe has lived at for several years before that led police to bushland north-east of Wanneroo. The bushland — in the areas of Nowergup and Pinjar — is about 60km north of Attadale. Just four days into the bushland search detective acting senior sergeant, Leigh McKnight, of the homicide squad, revealed “a number of items” linked to Mr Selfe and the Attadale property had been located. “We currently have a large contingent of police still out there now searching an expanded area of bushland for further items of interest, which may lead us to Mr Selfe’s location,” Det. Sen-Sgt McKnight said. “From ongoing forensic examinations, and information we have from a number of witnesses, there’s nothing that leads us to believe he’s still alive at this point in time. “The last known contact we have, or confirmed (contact) with Mr Selfe was in early to mid May, so we think it’s around about a similar time in which items were potentially disposed of, including the possibility of Mr Selfe’s body (being) disposed of in that location.” Nobody is in custody and no charges have been laid over his disappearance, but several people are assisting police. Det. Sen-Sgt McKnight said there didn’t appear to be any links to organised crime. “It looks very confined in its nature, in regards to we think the people were known to him, and we will reiterate that,” he said. “So we’re satisfied with the circumstances of where the investigation is at the moment, that there’s no further risk to members of the public.” Police had been searching the Attadale unit for about a week before they began scouring through bushland.
