Canning Stock Route fire ‘out of control’

A bushfire alert is in effect for Canning Stock Route with a blaze burning out of control after a lightning strike.

The alarm was raised by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services around 9am this morning for the blaze moving south west near the Talawana Track, in the Shire of East Pilbara - 36 kilometres east, south east of the Parnngurr Community.

DFES has advised firefighters are monitoring the situation but the fire is unpredictable, there is heavy smoke in the area.

No threat to lives or homes and fires burning along the Canning Stock Route

Drivers are advised to be extremely careful when driving through the area, turn your headlights on and drive slowly, watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
