People living in Port Hedland, South Hedland and Wedgefield are leaving their homes for the first time in almost two days as the Department of Fire and Emergency Services give them the all clear from Tropical Cyclone Veronica.

A red alert remains for people residing between Port Hedland to Mardie, including the towns of Whim Creek, Point Samson, Wickham, Roebourne, Karratha and Dampier in the Pilbara.

People living inland are on blue alert, while those in or near the communities of Barrow Island, Pannawonica, Mardie and surrounding areas are on a yellow alert.

A flood warning has been issued for people living in the Pilbara Coastal Rivers, with major flooding expected over the next few days.

They are being advised to watch for a change in the water levels and to pack relocation and emergency kits.

There is also a preparation warning for those near the Fortescue River, with possible minor flooding expected today and tomorrow.

People are being advised to relocate equipment and livestock early so they do not get caught in the floodwaters.
