A man in his 20s has died after two jet skis collided at the abandoned Atlas Iron Pardoo mine site in the Pilbara.

A WA Police spokeswoman said a group of friends were jet skiing at the quarry, about 70km north of Port Hedland, at about 2pm on Tuesday.

“A man in his 20s died as a result of injuries he received in the crash. The driver of the other jet ski, a man in his 40s,” she said.

South Hedland detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision at the site, which is not open to the public and is located on Great Northern Highway.

They will prepare a report for the coroner.
