An Australian man has reportedly been arrested in Bali on drugs charges.

7 News reports Troy Smith, from Port Lincoln in South Australia, was arrested on the Indonesian island while on holiday with his wife.

It is alleged Mr Smith was carrying 3.5g of methamphetamine.

It is understood Indonesian police officers arrested the man at his Canggu hotel on Thursday and he is now in custody.

Indonesian law carries strict anti-drug law and the Port Lincoln father could face a lengthy stint in prison for the alleged crime.

A Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman said the department was providing “consular assistance to an Australian man detained in Bali”.

“Owing to our privacy obligations we are unable to provide further comment.”
