COVID-19: More exposure sites added as Bunbury gripped by growing Kemerton Lithium Plant cluster

A host of new exposure sites have been listed around the South West, including two more in the heart of Bunbury and three in Australind as the City’s COVID cluster grows.

Mark McGowan today announced the total number of positive cases in the Greater Bunbury region had reached 17, all of which stem from one particular work area at Albemarle’s Kemerton Lithium Plant.

Officeworks Bunbury and the Bunbury Post Shop on Victoria Street have now both been added as exposure sites on the Healthy WA website.

Anyone who shopped at Officeworks between 12pm and 1215pm on Friday, January 21 or visited the Post Shop on Wednesday, January 19 between 1130am and 12.30pm are must get tested immediately and isolate until they receive a negative test result, unless they have received an exemption from the Department of Health.

Anyone who visited the Bunbury Aero Club between 345pm and 445pm on Saturday, January 22 are being asked to monitor for symptoms and to get tested and isolate if symptoms develop.

The same applies for several locations in Australind, including the Australind Shopping Centre on the corner of Old Coast Road and Paris Road between 11 and 1130am on Friday, January 21, Bunnings Australind between 445pm and 515pm on Thursday, January 20.

Visitors to the BP Service Station on Old Coast Road, across from the Australind Shopping Centre, between 4pm and 4.15pm on Thursday, January 20 are also being asked to monitor for symptoms.

Footprints Resort at Preston Beach, where it is believed a number of workers from the Kemerton Lithium Plant are staying, has also been added as an exposure site, with visitors between 5.30am and 4.30pm on Friday, January 21 asked to monitor for symptoms.

Earlier today, popular pub the Treendale Farm Hotel was added to the list of exposure sites, which already included Jo’s Curry House on Wittenoom Street in Bunbury.

Visitors to the Treendale Farm Hotel on the Promenade between 5pm and 6.30pm on Thursday, January 20 must get tested immediately.

The latest figure takes the total number of cases in the city to 17 since its first case in nearly two years was confirmed on Monday.

The State recorded 24 cases in total on Wednesday as thousands prepared to gather for Perth’s Skyworks Australia Day celebrations.

The remaining 15 cases were from Perth and include one mystery case, not linked to any known outbreak.
