More than one hundred trees have been planted at Gelorup’s Sheoak Park during a community planting day.
On Sunday July 5, the Revive 5 Community Group hosted its Five Mile Brook Federation Bridge planting day, where volunteers gathered to put in native plants on the northern banks of the brook.
Throughout the morning, volunteers dug holes, fertilised, planted and installed tree guards on the 21 species of trees, shrubs and ground covers.
In an online post, the Shire of Capel said by helping to reduce fragmentation, strengthen biodiversity and improve water quality to strengthen the ecosystem, the aim was to maintain the habitat and restore the degraded areas of the Five Mile Brook.
Following the planting day, the Revive 5 Community Group said in an online post it would keep an eye on soil moisture in the area and had supplementary watering on standby if needed.
