‘Stay inside’: Man arrested, multiple injured after active shooting sparks lockdown in Sydney’s inner-west

A man has been arrested and a major police operation has concluded after shots were fired in Sydney’s inner west, with at least one person shot and four injured. Emergency services were called to Croydon Park about 7.45pm Sunday after reports of several gunshots fired. A NSW Ambulance spokesman told NewsWire one man in his 50s presented himself to Canterbury Hospital with a gunshot wound, and has since been transported to another hospital. A man was arrested in a building on Georges River Rd about 9.30pm, and firearms have been seized. Three others presented themselves to Campsie police station with minor injuries, two of whom were transported to hospital. Locals said the shooter was believed to be on the roof of a restaurant, and fired four shots onto the street. The public was urged to “stay inside” as the police operation unfolded. Officers swarmed the area, with Georges River Rd closed between Croydon Ave and Seymor St, and Brighton Ave closed between Georges River Rd and Queensborough Rd. Polair helicopters have been circling the Croydon Park and Campsie areas. “Specialist resources are attending, and the public is urged to stay inside, and motorists are advised to avoid the area,” police said. Tactical officers in armoured Bearcat vehicles, as well as the riot squad and public order officers have been called in for assistance. The roads remain closed while investigations continue.
