Thieves allegedly target Aussie boxing legend Jeff Fenech at family home

Two men have been charged after allegedly attempting to break into the Sydney home of Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech.

The four-time world champion and his family were asleep in their Five Dock home at around 4am on Monday night when the pair allegedly broke in through a side window targeting the keys to the boxer’s luxury vehicles.

Their alleged efforts were caught on CCTV at the front of the home, including the moment they realised they had taken the wrong car while trying to unlock Mr Fenech’s Audi.

Known as the Marrickville Mauler, Mr Fenech was alarmed that he had allegedly been the target of the thieves.

“It’s scary and very terrifying,” he told 2GB’s Ben Fordham on Tuesday morning.

“We woke up early this morning to see police doing their job. We found out that the people they were chasing had already robbed our house.

“We were lucky. The police have done a great job and they stopped them”

Police were already patrolling the area after the men allegedly attempted to break into a home in nearby Wareemba earlier in the night.

CCTV shows the men hiding behind a wall to avoid a police car before they allegedly attempted to break in once again.

The two men are then seen sprinting away from the home as a police officer and dog run after them.

Officers arrested the two men nearby before taking them to Burwood Police Station.

Two men, aged 29 and 20, were each charged with five offences including aggravated break and enter and face blackening over the two attempted robberies.

Both men were refused bail and will appear in court on Wednesday.
