Police incident on Mitchell Freeway overpass cleared following traffic chaos

A police incident on the Mitchell Freeway has been cleared after commuters were earlier warned about long delays near the Leederville overpass.

The incident, which meant traffic came to a complete standstill on the freeway, was cleared about 3pm.

“UPDATE MITCHELL FWY NEAR VINCENT ST,” Main Roads tweeted earlier today.

“Various lane closures both directions. POLICE INCIDENT – WEST LEEDERVILLE.

“Police and traffic management on site. Seek an alternate route.”

Main Roads WA had urged drivers to be patient or seek an alternative route, with “various lane closures” in both directions.

Trains along the freeway had also been cancelled, but Joondalup and Mandurah trains have since resumed full line service.
