Police punched and spat at during yet another wild night of violence in Northbridge

Police were punched, spat at and had bottles thrown at them during yet another wild night of violence in Northbridge, which also saw a group of women pepper sprayed.

Eleven people are facing a range of charges after the latest flashpoint of violence.

The mayhem began at about 4am on Sunday as police were monitoring a crowd of about 200 people who had left an event at a club on James Street.

As the crowd moved towards a car park behind the club, several fights broke out.

Police say the crowd ignored their calls to disperse and an out-of-control gathering was declared, prompting more officers to attend.

One officer was punched to the face and taken to Royal Perth Hospital for a possible fractured jaw.

Another officer was spat at in the face and several bottles were thrown at officers and their cars.

Two men aged 20 and 22 have been charged with assault public officer.

A further six men and three women aged between 19 and 21 will be summonsed to face court for various other offences, including fail to comply with an order, disorderly conduct, fail to provide personal details and excess 0.05.

In a separate incident, Perth detectives are investigating an assault on a group of women on Francis Street.

Police say the group of four aged in their 30s were attacked with pepper spray by two unknown women.

As one of the victims went to help her friend she received a cut to her hand, possibly with a small knife.

Two of the women required treatment at Royal Perth Hospital.

The overnight violence comes after a long list of other serious attacks in Northbridge in recent weeks.

Paramount nightclub manager Giuseppe Raco died after being punched in Northbridge last month.

The 40-year-old father of one was struck during an altercation outside a kebab shop in the early hours of July 4.

Last week Perth detectives charged a 20-year-old man after a separate assault on a 19-year-old man.

The victim in that case who was also punched suffered serious head injuries.

Another 19-year-old man was coward punched without warning last Saturday night, while in the early hours of Friday a man was stabbed and another man glassed during a brawl on James Street.
