Wife’s emotional plea over Karratha hit and run

The distressed wife of a fly-in, fly-out worker who is fighting for life after a hit and run crash in Karratha has pleaded for help to track down the driver responsible.

Jake Moore, a father of two from Mandurah, is in Royal Perth Hospital’s intensive care unit with critical head and chest injuries after he was struck as he walked along a residential street in the Pilbara town about 2.30am on Saturday.

A nearby resident heard the crash and called police and paramedics but the driver did not stop to help.

Mr Moore’s wife Jolene said her husband was supposed to fly home on Saturday morning - instead she received the horrific news about 5am that he was seriously hurt.

She said her husband - who was a father and grandfather - was “strong” and would do his best to stay with his family.

“We’re just taking it hour by hour at this stage, it’s been a really tough 36 - 48 hours,” she said.

Mrs Moore urged the driver to hand themselves in before police tracked them down.

"There is a person out there with a lot on their conscious right about now, I'm just appealing for that person to make the process easier and come forward... for themselves but us as a family too because we're suffering," she said.

She said where he was run down was not far from where he lived. But she said detectives were still trying to piece together where he had been beforehand.

“He’s usually a homebody so part of the appeal is to piece together what he was doing,” she said.

Karratha detectives say Mr Moore, 41, was walking along Mujira Ramble near Bajamalu Drive in Baynton when he was struck.

They are appealing for people in the area to check their CCTV systems or dash cam footage.
