VideoFlash flooding and intense winds and rain hit the state with Victoria and South Australia next in the firing line.

Perth residents are being warned to brace for thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain as a pair of cold fronts sweep across WA, bringing widespread showers, gusty winds, the risk of moderate to heavy falls and a run of chilly winter mornings.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a high chance of showers on Monday, with thunderstorms and lightning possible from the afternoon and rainfall totals potentially exceeding 25mm in some suburbs.

Forecasters say there is a 75 per cent chance Perth will receive at least 15mm of rain, while a 50 per cent chance exists of falls topping 25mm.

The wet weather is being driven by two cold fronts crossing southern WA on Monday and into early Tuesday, with a period of moderate to heavy rain expected along west coast districts on Monday afternoon and into the night.

Showers are set to spread across much of the South West Land Division, the south-western Gascoyne and western Pilbara during the day, while strong winds are expected across southern and central parts of the State.

Perth’s top temperature is only expected to reach 21C after an overnight low of 12C, with north-westerly winds of up to 30km/h swinging westerly during the afternoon.

Showers are forecast to continue into Tuesday, extending across much of WA south-west of a line from Broome to Giles, with the wettest conditions expected south of Carnarvon.

Thunderstorms are also possible along the south coast, through parts of the Central West, Goldfields and Interior, while small hail could develop south of a line between Augusta and Bremer Bay.

Perth can expect another wet day on Tuesday before conditions begin easing later in the afternoon, with temperatures struggling to reach 17C.

A brief break is expected on Wednesday, with only a medium chance of showers and a top of 18C, although rain is still possible near west and south coastal areas.

But the colder air behind the fronts will send overnight temperatures tumbling, with Perth forecast to wake to 7C on Wednesday, 9C on Thursday, 8C on Friday and 7C on Saturday.

Early morning frost could develop across inland parts of the South West and Goldfields, while fog patches are possible through parts of the Pilbara, Kimberley and Interior.

But another burst of wet weather is set to sweep across WA on Thursday, bringing showers to areas south-west of a line from Port Hedland to Warburton and the chance of thunderstorms in the Gascoyne, Goldfields and Interior.

Friday could also deliver a rumble of thunder before conditions gradually improve.

Showers are forecast to return to Perth on Saturday and Sunday, with tops of 19C on both days as a series of cold fronts continues to track across the South West.
