VideoRockingham roof collapse

Dramatic video has captured water pouring through the ceiling of a shoe store at Rockingham Centre after heavy rain overwhelmed the roof during Perth’s latest bout of wild weather.

The footage shows multiple leaks bursting through the ceiling inside Jim Kidd on Monday afternoon, sending torrents of water crashing onto the floor and creating large puddles throughout the store.

The indoor waterfall came as another cold front swept across the metropolitan area, dumping rain and bringing strong winds that continued into Tuesday morning.

Most of that rain arrived after midnight, with 7.4mm recorded during the early hours of the morning.

The strongest winds near Perth were recorded at Hillarys, where gusts reached 72km/h, while Cape Leeuwin was lashed by a 93km/h gust at 4am.

Perth was still experiencing wind gusts above 40km/h on Tuesday morning, with showers expected to continue until around lunchtime before conditions begin to ease.

But residents won’t get long to dry out.

Forecasters say another cold front is expected to sweep across the South West on Thursday, bringing fresh showers and the chance of thunderstorms.

The bureau has also warned Perth residents to brace for a run of chilly winter mornings, with temperatures forecast to plunge to 7C on Wednesday, 9C on Thursday, 8C on Friday and 7C on Saturday.

The colder weather follows two fronts that crossed southern WA, bringing thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds to large parts of the State.

Strong wind warnings remain in place for coastal waters off Perth, Geraldton, Lancelin, Bunbury and the Gascoyne, while gale-force conditions are forecast off parts of the South Coast.

Showers are expected to return to Perth over the weekend as a series of fronts continues to roll across the South West.
