A severe weather warning is in place for WA’s South West today, as Perth is lashed with heavy rain and winds expected to last through the night.

A cold front crossing the south of the State this morning has brought damaging winds from Mandurah down to Walpole and across to Bremer Bay, triggering the warning.

Strong wind gusts between 60 and 70 km/h are expected, with Cape Leeuwin recording a gust of 117 km/h just before 10am this morning.

The front is also expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to the warning area, with the chance of a storm in Perth region this afternoon.
