The final phone call between a British influencer and her mother has revealed chilling new details about the hours before she was accused of murdering her boyfriend in Dubai, with the 23-year-old said to have been “crying uncontrollably” and “utterly terrified”.
Brooke George, from Gravesend in Kent, is facing a murder charge over the death of her 26-year-old British boyfriend, Bill Treeby, after allegedly stabbing him during a confrontation at his Dubai apartment last month.
The TikTok creator maintains she acted in self-defence after enduring months of alleged abuse, claiming she grabbed a kitchen knife only after fearing for her life. If convicted, she could face the death penalty by firing squad under United Arab Emirates law.
Now, her mother, Thereza George, has broken her silence, describing a series of conversations that she believes showed her daughter was in escalating danger before the fatal incident.
She said Brooke had travelled back to Dubai believing she was rekindling her relationship with Treeby, but quickly sensed something had changed, Mirror revealed.
“After Brooke returned to Dubai for the second time, the dynamic between them had clearly changed,” she said.
“The day before the incident, she did not seem like herself. She was quieter and not her usual happy, cheerful self, but she did not tell me why.”
The following day, after learning of the stabbing, Ms George said she received a phone call she will never forget.
“That evening they went to a bar in Dubai. When I spoke to Brooke right after the incident, she was absolutely terrified. I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life. She was crying uncontrollably. I could see that one of her eyes was badly swollen and was beginning to close.”
“As Brooke’s mother, I am deeply concerned for her welfare. The daughter I spoke to that night was utterly terrified. I firmly believe she was desperately trying to get home and away from whatever had happened to her.”
The fresh claims come after it emerged Treeby had previously been convicted of unlawful wounding and common assault in Britain in 2023 over an attack involving a man and a woman. He received a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
London-based advocacy group Detained in Dubai, which is assisting Ms George, claims family and friends had become “increasingly concerned” she had been lured back to the UAE under false pretences and was being exploited.
The organisation alleges Treeby became increasingly controlling before the incident, claiming he withheld Ms George’s passport and that she had confided to friends that “things weren’t right” and she felt she “needed to escape”.
Calling for a broader investigation, Detained in Dubai chief executive Radha Stirling urged authorities to examine all electronic devices linked to the case.
“Given these allegations, we urge the UAE authorities to preserve and forensically examine all electronic devices, computers, mobile phones, online accounts and digital communications connected with the deceased and any associates, to determine whether Brooke was targeted for exploitation and whether others may also have been victims.”
A spokesperson for Britain’s Foreign Office confirmed officials were continuing to provide consular support.
“We are in touch with a British woman detained in the UAE, we are supporting her family, and we are in contact with the local authorities.”
