A young woman was found dead in her seat aboard a plane after fellow travellers began disembarking and realised she had not moved.
Heartbreaking images show the body of 28-year-old Abidai Lopez Solis being carried off a Volaris aircraft, wrapped in what appeared to be a sheet, after the flight landed in southern Mexico.
Ms Lopez Solis was travelling on domestic flight 3358 from Tijuana to Tapachula International Airport in Chiapas when the grim discovery was made on October 7.
The flight had arrived in the early hours of the morning, with passengers initially disembarking as normal.
Concern grew when passengers in Ms Lopez Solis’ row noticed that she remained motionless in her seat and failed to respond.
Emergency personnel boarded the aircraft and checked her vital signs before confirming she had died.
Airport teams were then mobilised to remove her body, which was taken for a post-mortem examination as authorities investigated the circumstances surrounding her death.
Reports from local media initially said the cause of death had not been established.
But subsequent Mexican media reports said forensic findings linked her death to cardiorespiratory arrest, with preliminary findings indicating natural causes.
The full autopsy report has not been publicly released.
Ms Lopez Solis was returning to Chiapas to reunite with family, according to local reports.
Her relatives identified her at the state prosecutor’s office on Thursday before arranging for her body to be returned to her hometown of Acacoyagua for her funeral.
Authorities have not alleged foul play.
