WA fuel crisis: Government reviewing fuel information as all six suppliers give responses at final deadline

All six fuel supply companies shared information with the State Government by Wednesday’s deadline, with work now underway to check what has been submitted is up to standard. The companies were required to share detailed information about total volume, dates and locations of fuel supplies they hold from the first three months of the year. They now need to provide up to date information weekly as part of the State Government’s effort to ensure there is fuel where it is required in WA’s regions. Those who do not comply will face penalties of up to $100,000 per day. Energy Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson confirmed a review of the supplied data was underway to ensure it complied with requirements. “We have received information from all six companies,” she said. “We are analysing that information now to see if it meets the requirements of the emergency order and to determine next steps. “I thank the companies for their cooperation.” Further changes to freight rules will allow trucks to carry an extra 10 tonnes of milk and perishable food products per load. Its the same arrangement that have been made for fuel and fertiliser transport to reduce truck movements and save on fuel. Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti said it was another move to help with the burden of higher fuel prices. “We’ve been working with dairy transporters or milk deliverers as well as in relation to perishable food about how we could support the freight industry, working with the milk industry about how we can support the delivery of milk in a far more efficient way,” she said. It comes after Ms Saffioti and Premier Roger Cook announced they’d allow 53.5-metre triple-trailer road trains to travel closer to Perth along the Great Northern Highway between Wubin and Muchea. But Nationals leader Shane Love raised concerns over the safety of the move, arguing the roads were not safe for such large vehicles. Ms Saffioti maintained it was safe. “This is a temporary measure, and it’s one under strict conditions and we’ve been working, in particular with the union and the Western Roads Federation about the conditions,” she said. “There are very strict conditions, noting there are people concerned about road safety.”
