Former Collingwood star Travis Cloke’s pleas for crowd to ‘be better’ than booing Adam Treloar fails

Adam Treloar’s first touch led to a Bulldogs goal and it’s safe to say the Collingwood faithful weren’t pleased.

As the Dogs cheers rang out around the MCG on Friday night, boos could be heard from the Magpie army despite former star Travis Cloke’s pleas for the crowd to “be better than that”.

Treloar was famously offloaded in the Pies’ fire sale, getting to the Western Bulldogs in the dying seconds of the trade period.

Treloar has since spoken of his devastation at being let go from the club he was contracted to.

Cloke, like Treloar, left Collingwood for the Western Bulldogs and kicked a goal in his first game against his former club.

On that occasion, in round one 2017, Cloke admitted he was “caught off-guard” by the tough reaction of the Magpie fans.

“I’d been there since 15 or 16 years of age,” he said on SEN.

“I gave my heart and soul to that footy club and more.

“I didn’t leave on bad terms, it was pretty mutual. I just needed to find that love (for the game again).

“(The booing) caught me off-guard. I’ll never forget it.

“It’s probably the one thing in my career that stands out for me.

“It was disappointing, probably even knowing some of the personnel who booed me, I’ve crossed paths with them and hadn’t said thank you for what I did for that football club.

“I thought I had given enough to that place to earn their respect.”
