What’s better than a day at the races?

A day at the races followed by an evening at the western derby as two bitter rivals slug it out for local bragging rights.

And that’s just what’s on offer in Perth this weekend as Dockers star Sean Darcy and West Coast defender Jamaine Jones get suited up ahead of Perth’s super Saturday sports bonanza.

Saturday will be one of the biggest days on WA’s sporting calendar as the state’s richest horse race draws plenty of top-end racing talent before bitter rivals West Coast and Fremantle go head-to-head.

The $5 million The Quokka is the climax of a jam-packed day at Ascot featuring the coveted Western trilogy.

If the adrenaline rush of the field thundering into the home straight still leaves you wanting, patrons can head straight to Optus Stadium - with Ascot even encouraging spectators to display their derby allegiance throughout the race day - and the derby with one of the most anticipated contests of recent times on the cards.

West Coast comes into the match off the back of a drought-breaking win against the Tigers, with their next generation beginning to bloom into the stars of the future, while Fremantle has suffered two devastating road defeats in a row, despite boasting the best defence in the competition.

Fans who would rather enjoy the AFL contest with the finer forms of racing extravagance can watch the match play out live on big screens at Ascot.

Darcy and Jones put the bitter feud on pause ahead of the Saturday, uniting with sports presenter Brittney Taylor, star racehorse Luckygray and Docker the Quokka to encourage Perth sports fans to get around one of the biggest days on WA’s sporting calendar.
