VideoAFL: Speaking on AFL 360, David King has called on the Saints midfield to get their hands dirty against the West Coast Eagles this week.

West Coast draftee Isiah Winder is almost set to make his AFL debut as a medical sub, after being named as an emergency for the Eagles’ clash with St Kilda at Marvel Stadium.

Forward Jake Waterman was the only inclusion for the Eagles, after just one game back in the WAFL as a back injury hampered his pre-season.

Eagles captain Luke Shuey is out due to a serious hamstring injury which required surgery today, while the medical sub for the clash with Port Adelaide, Zac Langdon, was dropped.

Ruckman Nathan Vardy and Winder were the only two emergencies who flew out with the Eagles on Thursday.

Vardy booted four goals for West Coast in the WAFL after being dropped following the round two loss to the Western Bulldogs, while Winder jagged five goals from 18 disposals in the 13-point loss to Perth on Saturday.

The Eagles are unlikely to use a ruckman as the medical sub given the lack of versatility, leaving Winder – who plays a mix of forward and in the midfield – as the most likely option.

The 18-year-old was taken by the Eagles with pick 57 in last year’s draft, with the Eaton-product impressing for Peel in the colts, averaging 28 disposals, five tackles and three inside 50s.

Waterman kicked two goals from 10 kicks in the reserves and has been named on the bench alongside Jamaine Jones, Jack Petruccelle and Josh Rotham.

Xavier O’Neill and Alex Withderden are the other emergencies, but did not fly out on Thursday and could still line up for the Eagles WAFL team in their clash with West Perth in Yanchep tomorrow, despite not being named.

Ruck-forward Bailey Williams will make his return from an ankle injury in the WAFL tomorrow, being named at full-forward for their clash against the Falcons.

St Kilda made three changes, with Jack Bytel, Jimmy Webster and Rowan Marshall coming in for the injured Jade Gresham, while Ben Long, Mason Wood and Shaun McKernan were all dropped after the dismal loss to Essendon.
