VideoHe may have started as the medical sub, but West Coast's Isiah Winder has had an immediate impact in his first AFL game.

Eagles debutant Isiah Winder has become just the ninth West Coast player to kick a goal with their first kick in AFL.

Winder started as the medical sub for the clash with St Kilda on Saturday but got the nod early when veteran Shannon Hurn came from the field with a calf injury in the first term.

Making the most of his early opportunity, Winder pounced on a Bradley Hill error in the Eagles goal square and snapped truly with his first kick in AFL.

His teammates quickly got around him to celebrate the achievement.

Winder was named as the medical sub after a starring five-goal effort for West Coast in the WAFL last weekend.

The Eaton product, who was taken with pick 57 in the 2020 Draft, now joins the likes of Eagles skipper Luke Shuey (2010), the man he replaced in Hurn (2006) and West Coast premiership player Scott Lycett (2011) as players who have goaled with their first kick in AFL.

Andrew Strijk (2010), Callum Wilson (2009) and Quinten Lynch (2002) are the only other Eagles to score a goal with their first kicks, while Brent Staker had goals in his first two kicks in AFL back in 2003.

Remarkably, Eagle Daniel Metropolis holds the club record for most goals with first kicks, slotting four goals from his first four kicks in the AFL back in 1992.

Winder’s Eagles teammate Jamaine Jones also kicked a goal with his first kick in the AFL during his debut for Geelong.
