It appears some of Collingwood’s biggest stars were still re-living their premiership success with one AFL expert left unimpressed with what he saw at their match simulation.

In what was the Pies’ most competitive hit-out since their grand final triumph Team Ballarat, coached by Jordan Roughead were the big winners over Team Bendigo coached by Scott Selwood in what was labelled the Goldfields Cup by the club.

However, David King was left unimpressed by what he saw in the first half with a few too many players trying to show off rather than hit their marks.

“Too much Hollywood in this practice match. Lots to like ([Bobby] Hill, [Fin] Macrae, etc) but Ash [Johnson]….just kick the goal….Bobby just dish the handball……Nick [Daicos] biting off too much corridor……otherwise high quality,” King posted on X, formerly Twitter.

One new star that was not on show was Lachie Schultz with the ex-Dockers sitting out the match after copping some studs to the back of the knee in training.

However, it was more a precautionary measure with Schultz expected to be back for match simulation and practice later this month.

While it was only a scratch match it is one that holds big implications for forgotten WA star Brynn Teakle who is at Collingwood as train-on.

The Pies have until February 19th and have three list spots available to sign-on any additional talent but are expected to make the call on Wednesday night.

Teakle managed just six games in two seasons at Port with a shoulder dislocation and foot injury hampering his efforts to impress.

He started in the ruck through the second and third terms and showed good strength and even popped up for a goal in the third.

Premiership defender Nathan Murphy did not feature as he remains on a modified training program on the way back from his concussion woes.

The 24-year-old insisted he has not suffered a fresh setback but said he was not in the “right frame of mind” to take part in match simulation sessions.

“I’m still really healthy; still participating in a lot of stuff,” he said.

“I’m not really contemplating retirement. That’s not really on my agenda.

“I’m just trying to focus on getting back out there to play football.”
