Perth Heat have the chance to cement themselves clearly as the best team in the ABL heading into Christmas as they chase the 2019/20 title with a tantalising series at Harley-Davidson Ballpark this weekend against the Adelaide Giants.

The Heat have now won three of their four series to open the 2019/20 ABL season on the back of last weekend's 3-1 victory against Geelong-Korea at Harley-Davidson Ballpark, but it's now a top-of-the-table clash with Adelaide to look forward to heading into Christmas.

While the Heat do come into Round 5 with the best record in the league and on top of the southwest conference, the gap to the Giants is a narrow one heightening the stakes for what should be a tantalising series.

The Heat now hold an 11-5 record following the opening four rounds of the season which has seen them win 3-1 in series against Auckland Tuatara, Canberra Cavalry and Geelong-Korea to go with a 2-2 tie with the Melbourne Aces.

Meanwhile, the Giants head to Perth with a 10-6 record after sweeping the Brisbane Bandits 4-0, losing to the Sydney Blue Sox 3-1, a 2-2 draw with the Geelong-Korea and 3-1 victory against the Melbourne Aces.

The result of the series will determine which teams sit atop of the southwest conference heading into Christmas.

The Game AFL 2024

It all gets underway at Harley-Davidson Ballpark on Friday night from 7pm before a double-header on Saturday, with the first game starting at 4pm and the second at 7pm with the Heat to wear a special Christmas-themed uniform.

The series then wraps up on Sunday afternoon at the renovated ballpark from 4pm.

The Heat's pitching has remained the team's great strength so far this season and across the 16 games to date, they have only conceded 114 hits, 64 runs and six home runs. In comparison, the Giants have conceded 134 hits, 72 runs and eight homers.

Already Nick Veale, Dylan Unsworth and Carlos Garcia have been awarded two wins apiece for the Heat while closer Daniel Schmidt already has three saves from four games finished.

With Adelaide, Jason Lott and Dustin Beggs have won two games already and Daina Ono, and Ryan Chaffee have two saves.

From a batting point of view, Robbie Glendinning already has five home runs, 21 hits and 14 runs for the Heat with Niko Hulsizer (three, 14, 11), Ulrich Bojarski (two, seven, four), Tim Kennelly (two, 13, 14) and Jordan Qsar (two, 19, 15) all impressive.

Curtis Mead has hit four homers already this season for the Giants and Logan O'Hoppe three while Aaron Whitefield has a league-high 23 hits.

Jess Williams has also made a strong start to the season for the Heat with nine hits and six runs from 37 at bats. He is looking to continue to build on that while looking forward to the pre-Christmas series with the Giants.

"Personally I am just trying to get more at bats in, more defensive reps in and be ready to head back to the States in February," Williams said.

"But winning a championship is also a goal and it has been for two or three years. We got close last year and hopefully this year we can bring the Claxton Shield back home.

"We have the Christmas jerseys ready to go so that will be pretty cool. They are bright green and have got the presents on there, they've got Santa Claus on there and that's going to be a good one.

"It would be really fun to come down here and check out the boys. If you've never been down here then I highly encourage you to get down here to check it out. You won't be disappointed."
