The Sydney Kings have tied their championship series hero Kendric Davis to a two-year deal that keeps him in the NBL until at least the 2027/28 season.

Davis was the difference for the Kings in a nail-biting 2025/26 championship series against his former side Adelaide that was decided in overtime of game five.

His gripping tit-for-tat with rival point guard Bryce Cotton defined the series, which ended in the Kings' sixth championship and Davis receiving the Larry Sengstock Medal for series MVP.

Davis finished second to Cotton in voting for the NBL season's MVP award, averaging 25.1 points and 7.1 assists per game.

The 27-year-old Texas native had previously said he hoped to return to the Kings unless an NBA move could come to fruition.

His acquisition is a major boost to the Kings' hopes of going back-to-back in their third season since Brian Goorjian returned as coach.

"Kendric is a competitor in every sense of the word," Goorjian said.

"The relationship he formed with this organisation and our fans became incredibly special to watch.

"To have him choose to continue that journey here in Sydney is enormous for our club and for the league."

The Kings' general manager of basketball operations James Newman said retaining Davis was a major priority from the moment the season ended.

"Kendric and his family built a genuine connection with Sydney and with this club over the course of last season," Newman said.

"I spoke with a lot of people through this process, including his mum, his sister and his son, and honestly those were the conversations that mattered most.

"I couldn't be more excited to welcome Kendric and his family back into our family for this next chapter."

Davis joins fellow star players Matthew Dellavedova, Jaylin Galloway and Xavier Cooks on the roster for next season.

The Kings are still in the market for a starting big man, having not yet tied Brazilian import Tim Soares to a new deal, but will have Keli Leaupepe back from his long-term knee injury.

The club has lost fan favourite Kouat Noi, defensive ace Bul Kuol and veteran Shaun Bruce in the fallout from their championship win.
