The Phoenix Suns have extended their NBA winning streak to 16 games by accounting for the Brooklyn Nets 113-107.

Playing for the second straight night to end a four-game trip, Phoenix never trailed and led by as many as 22 points while moving within a victory of matching the longest winning streak in franchise history.

The Suns will try to do that on Tuesday night at home against the Golden State Warriors (17-2) in a match-up of the top two teams in the NBA.

“I’m looking forward to it, man,” Devin Booker said.

“Obviously not a make it, break it, it’s not a playoff game, but we know it’s going to be high-energy, two best records in the NBA. It’s going to a high-intensity, fun game.”

Booker scored 30 points while Chris Paul had 22 points, eight assists and five rebounds, becoming the first player in NBA history to reach 20,000 points, 10,000 assists and 5,000 rebounds.

Phoenix improved to 17-3, their best record through 20 games since having the same mark in 2004-05.

“Obviously, everybody knows the ultimate goal is the chance to win a championship,” Paul said.

“But if you don’t enjoy the small victories throughout the regular season, then what the hell are you doing?”

Kevin Durant had 39 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the Nets, who had a four-game winning streak snapped.

James Harden carved out a sloppy triple-double with 14 assists, 13 rebounds, 12 points and seven turnovers while Australian Patty Mills made three of seven attempts from beyond the arc for nine points.

Joel Embiid returned for the Philadelphia 76ers and led all scorers but it was in vain in a 121- 120 double-overtime home loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

D’Angelo Russell scored 35 points and had a decisive steal and assist in the final seconds of the game for the T’Wolves.

Embiid, who had missed nine games because of COVID-19 protocols, had 42 points and 14 rebounds as the Sixers lost for the eight time in 10 outings.

The Miami Heat beat the Chicago Bulls 107-104, the Washington Wizards’ overcame the Dallas Mavericks 120-114, the Cleveland Cavaliers accounted for the Orlando Magic 105-92 while the New York Knicks ended the Atlanta Hawks’ seven-game winning streak 99-90.
