West Australian all-rounder Hilton Cartwright has answered Tasmania’s frustrations with a classy return-match century in Hobart.

Cartwright was at the centre of angry discussions and sledging at the WACA last week after leaving mid-innings to be at his partner’s side for the early arrival of their second child.

The West Aussie then returned to the crease at the next fall of wicket the following morning, adding 13 runs to his half century before falling.

However, on the final day of the clash won by WA, members of the Tasmanian squad confronted Cartwright about leaving during the match and then returning, the group angered by having to green-light the move.

The umpires were forced to intervene and settle the situation.

There were no repeat scenes as the sides played again in Hobart, but Cartwright looked a man with extra determination as he built towards triple figures on day three.

It looked as though WA would see twin centuries, but first drop batter Jayden Goodwin fell six runs short of the magical milestone, bowled all ends up by a Matthew Kuhnemann yorker that drifted into the left-hander.

However, Cartwright remained steely through the 90s, manipulating a pair of easy singles to register his ninth First-Class century.

He kept the celebrations sedate, acknowledging his teammates in the dressing room before upping the ante with a booming cover drive to the fence.

Cartwright’s knock leaves WA in a promising position with a day and a half to play, the visitors holding a 33-run lead with five wickets still in hand at 5-350.
