Fremantle have sent shock waves through the AFLW and cemented themselves as premiership favourites with a dominant 30-point win over Adelaide at Norwood Oval in a Valentines Day spectacle.

It might not have been the biggest of their 10-consecutive wins, but the 7.1 (43) to 1.7 (13) victory was easily their most impressive as they held the Crows to their lowest ever score.

Fremantle have not lost since the 2019 preliminary final and their streak surpasses their men’s counterparts, who’s best was nine-straight wins in 2006 and 2015.

The contest promised so much and delivered in spades, with both teams refusing to take a backward step in one of the most physical AFLW games seen.

And there was little surprise Dockers superstar Kiara Bowers was at the coalface, dominating the contest with 23 touches, six clearances and 13 tackles.

Bowers didn’t do it alone, finding plenty of willing teammates in Hayley Miller (15 disposals), Tiah Haynes (13 disposals and a goal) and Stephanie Cain (13 disposals), who all threw everything at the contest.

After a week of uncertainty, Fremantle came out of the blocks intent on putting pressure on the Crows with repeat entries into attack.

But Adelaide’s defence was up to the task, forcing the Dockers to over-possess the footy and late in the first term, threatened to make the visitors pay for their wasted opportunities.

A series of incredible efforts by Ange Stannett in defence ensured the Crows would also remain goalless in the first term.

It took the cool head of Bowers to see the first goal kicked, after she found teammate Haynes in some rare space in attack with a pinpoint pass.

The Dockers were coming out on top in the little moments and none was more crucial than Sabreena Duffy and Ashley Sharp (two goals) winning a two-on-four contest to give the Dockers an 11-point lead at half-time.

Adelaide’s decision to double-team Dockers spearhead Gemma Houghton opened up opportunities for others to hit the scoreboard, and Fremantle took full advantage in a three-goal third term.

Not even Crows superstar Erin Phillips (14 disposals and a goal) could ease the pressure, missing a set shot before the final break which could have kept the home side in the contest.

Fremantle may have had the game wrapped up by three-quarter time, but they were intent on making a statement as Houghton broke free from the extra attention to score quick consecutive goals.

Crows coach Matthew Clarke sent Phillips forward as he desperately sought answers to the Dockers’ dominance.

While it led to a purple patch for his side, it was too little, too late as Fremantle defeated Adelaide for the first time in four attempts.
