Fremantle have named an unchanged side for the fourth time this season for Saturday’s clash with Greater Western Sydney in Canberra, a clear indication of blistering form and a shallow injury list.
The top-of-the-ladder Dockers, chasing an unprecedented 15th successive win for the club, named Jaeger O’Meara, Chris Scerri and Corey Wagner as the three emergencies. O’Meara and Scerri both travelled with the team when it flew out of Perth yesterday.
Wingman Jeremy Sharp was also unable to break into the side following an eye-catching performance for Peel last weekend in which he kicked three goals and amassed 25 possessions.
Sean Darcy was for the second week in succession named as Luke Jackson’s preferred ruck partner with Mason Cox, who had 24 hitouts and a goal for the Thunder last week, left at home.
Key defender Hugh Davies is another back-up with impressive form kept out of the side.
Shai Bolton did not travel with the main group but left on a later flight.
GWS, on the other hand, has been decimated with 15 players on its injury list.
The Giants named academy product, medium forward Riley Hamilton, to make his AFL debut against the Dockers in his home town of Canberra.
Hamilton, 189cm, has kicked 26 goals in 12 VFL games this year, including at least one goal in every game and multiple majors in 10 of the 12 appearances.
The Giants were forced to make four changes, managing out Rising Star prospect Phoenix Gothard and key defender Leek Aleer, with forward Max Gruzewski out with a knee injury for a month and Brent Daniels sidelined with calf trouble for a yet-to-be-determined period.
Midfielders Jack Ough and Harrow Rowsten and forward Josaia Delana were the other inclusions.
The Giants’ injury list is headlined by Coleman medallist Jesse Hogan (finger), Tom Green and Darcy Jones (knee) and Josh Kelly (hip).
That compares badly to the Dockers, who have only three players sidelined, Sam Sturt (quad), whose timeline for return is still uncertain; Toby Murray (calf) and Adam Sweid (knee) who were both listed as tests this week.
The Giants were unable to recall key defender Jack Buckley (hamstring).
Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has shown a preference for managing players within games rather than resting them.
The Dockers sit two games clear atop the AFL ladder with the best percentage in the AFL.

Jackson batted away suggestions he could be rested before the finals after the Suns win.
“I don’t know if rest is the right word; what I see is it allows us to not take any risks with sore players, but we don’t really have any at the moment, so it’s probably one week at a time with that type of stuff,” Longmuir told 7News this week.
“But it does give us the opportunity to manage players if they’re sore.”
