Murphy Reid says he’s loving his footy and his time at Fremantle and has revealed he plans to enter talks around a contract extension at the end of the season.

Reid has been a revelation in his debut campaign, playing every game so far in 2025 after being picked up with the Dockers’ first selection (pick 17) in last year’s draft.

The 18-year-old is among the favourites for the Rising Star, averaging 1.2 goals and 13.7 disposals per game.

Reid’s impressive start has prompted calls for the Dockers to lock the mid-forward in long-term, despite being tied to the club until the end of 2027 on his initial three-year draft deal.

Asked if he would look to sign the dotted line on an extension in the near future, Reid responded: “Possibly.”

“I’m just focusing on playing footy this year,” he told SEN. “Just keeping the wins together and staying consistent with my footy.

“I think because there has been so much change for me this year and now that I’m playing consistently, I sort of want to keep it simple and focus on my footy week on week.

“And then towards the end of the year, after the season, we’ll go into those talks.

“But just loving my footy, loving my time at Freo and couldn’t have asked for anything better at the moment.”

The addition of Reid has helped the Dockers to a strong opening half of the season, sitting just inside the eight with an 8-5 record.

They’ve won their past four games and head into Thursday night’s Optus Stadium clash with a struggling Essendon as red-hot favourites.

Reid says while his side are playing good footy, there is still room from improvement.

“We delved into that this week. We were really happy with the win but obviously had a few learnings that came out of the game. Just little things we want to touch up on,” Reid said.

“We’ve been pretty happy with how we’ve been playing, we’ve been taking some big scalps in GWS and Gold Coast away the past couple weeks.

“As a group, we’ve got a lot of confidence now, it’s just those little things with the game plan that we just need to touch up and once we all buy into that for the whole 120 minutes of the game, we’ll be very hard to beat.”
