VideoThe Fremantle forward riled up opposition fans with a series of pointed celebrations.

The MCG is where glory lives forever, where history is created, where statements are made and where stars are born.

So it was fitting that Fremantle used the MCG as the place where they equalled the club record for most consecutive wins.

Fremantle, who have adopted the name Walyalup for Sir Doug Nicholls Round, won their ninth consecutive game with a comprehensive 16.8 (104) to 8.13 (61) victory over Essendon on a wet Melbourne afternoon.

This was a day where Pat Voss starred with five goals, where Josh Treacy was imposing, where Murphy Reid showcased all of his skills while collected 29 possessions, where Caleb Serong had a heap of the ball and where Shai Bolton and Isaiah Dudley celebrated Indigenous Round in style.

This win was never in doubt.

When you step onto the MCG, you want to start well. Bolton won the first possession of the game and then kicked the first goal after only 30 seconds. That’s a fair start.

He then found Treacy on the lead for Fremantle’s second major after only two minutes. The Dockers were on.

But if you were late entering the ground, you would have sat down and wondered what the hell happened because Michael Frederick kicked their third after four-and-a-half minutes, and Essendon’s heads were spinning.

The Bombers had managed only six disposals at that point of the game. Bolton had five to himself.

That set the scene for the day. The ball lived in Fremantle’s half as they pulled clear by more than 50 points at half-time.

Serong had the ball on a string while Treacy just kept taking marks, hitting bodies and wreaking havoc.

Speaking of havoc, Voss went nuts.

The Prancing Pony loves the MCG. He kicked six goals at the ground against Collingwood last season. He kicked four in the second quarter on Sunday while playing against the club he spent time at as a rookie.

The first was a left foot banana after evading some Bombers in the corridor. The crowd made the mistake of booing Voss, even though Essendon de-listed him without giving him a game. So when he kicked his second major from a set shot, he proudly showed the fans his jumper.

When he kicked his third goal after smothering Kyle Langford’s attempt to clear the ball, he was close enough to the fence to really send the fans a message.

And then he nailed a set shot from the boundary line right on half-time, and celebrated accordingly. Dockers fans hadn’t seen one of their players kick four goals in a quarter at the MCG since 2007. Matthew Pavlich did it that day. Every Docker wants to be compared to the Pav.

When Voss kicked his six goals against Collingwood, the Dockers won despite struggling to get the ball forward.

That was a trend from recent matches for the club at the MCG. They managed only 40 forward entries against the Pies. The Dockers had 30 in the first half against Essendon.

Fremantle kicked five goals from stoppages for the half. They just kept winning the footy and pumping it forward.

Voss kicked his fifth goal midway through the third term with a savage tackle on Jacob Farrow. This time he had the Dockers fans nearby and celebrated accordingly.

Reid relished being back in Victoria and treated the MCG like it was his back yard. He looked completely comfortable on the wide open spaces where he could twist and turn and hit targets at will.

Chris Scerri was also back in Victoria and kicked the first goal of his career. He was best on ground in the Essendon District Football League grand final at Windy Hill last season. Now he was hitting the scoreboard at the MCG against the team that used to make Windy Hill its home.

The Bombers struggled to kick goals for most of the day. Their only major in the first half came from a horrible error by Fremantle.

Heath Chapman tried to switch the ball to Karl Worner but the Docker defender was under pressure from two Bombers. Sullivan Robey made the most of that mistake by kicking a goal from a set shot.

That goal came nine-and-a-half minutes into the first quarter. Fremantle refused to give them simple opportunities from there. The Dons were horribly off target and had 1.9 at one point but

It was ironic that the second goal also came after a turnover when the Dockers tried to kick the ball across the ground. Dons fans had to wait until 14 minutes into the third term for that to occur.

The Bombers kicked another goal moments later. But they still trailed by 50 points.

With a five-day break coming up before the team attempts to break the consecutive wins record against St Kilda, the Dockers would have been torn between finishing the game off and retaining some petrol tickets in the final term.

Essendon had a crack and kicked five goals, including one on the final siren. They won the final term. But nothing was going to stop the Dockers from winning their ninth game in a row.
