Perth Glory coach Ruben Zadkovich pleased with what he saw from new look squad in opening pre-season victory

Perth Glory coach Ruben Zadkovich has put his new-look squad through their first pre-season game.

And while there were some rough edges that need smoothing he was pleased with the 4-1 win over NPL side Perth.

“It showed me where we’re at,” Zadkovich said.

“There were some real positives and some areas to work on, but very pleased.

“There’s still a lot of refinement and detail to come but our playing style was in clear sight for people to see.”

“We have a clear way of going about the way we move the ball.

“We’ve done a lot on our structures in the back third and the mid-third, put some of the principles into place.

“It was good to see some of what we’ve worked on in action.”

Zadkovich, who used two dozen players, said they came through injury free under strictly controlled playing minutes.

“We did a tight job on making sure we kept their minutes and loads well calculated,” he said.

“We want to try and get away from some of the debacles that we’ve had in the past.

“There was 30 minutes for some, 45 minutes for others.

“We’ve got boys that have come in at different stages so we made a lot of changes.

“It was a good hit out and good to get minutes into legs.”

Glory still have two months before the A-League kicks off.

and have spent the last four weeks on fitness.

“We’re in a good stage to go into the next block,” Zadkovich said.

“We’ve had four weeks of conditioning and baseline fitness.

“We haven’t really done too much full phase tactical play yet.

“Now we’ve got the opportunity to put full field tactical stuff to the boys.”
