Perth gun Luke Travers’ NBA career is set to continue as the prospect has signed a one year extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers as, they look to make a deep finals push.

The former Perth Wildcat was drafted by the Cavs in 2022 with the 56th pick where he played for their summer league team in his draft year and 2023, winning the competition, but still playing in the NBL for the Wildcats and Melbourne United.

Last year the 23-year-old committed to pursuing the NBA, spending the past season with the Cavaliers.

During the 2024-25 season Travers appeared in 12 games, averaging 1 point, 1.7 rebounds at 7.3 minutes per game - only being used as a late rotational piece during blow out games.

In the G League, where he had more chance to shine, Travers played 21 games for the Cleveland Charge and stuffed the stat sheet - averaging 17 points, 9.9 rebounds, 7 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

What has impressed most during his limited showings was the former 6’7 guards play making ability and high basketball IQ on both ends of the floor, with his offensive output leaving room to grow.

He resigns on another two-way contract, similar to what Geraldton product Alex Ducas signed for the Oklahoma City Thunder after going undrafted last year - the news was reported by Sports Illustrated’s Cavaliers insider Spencer Davies.

Travers was recently in Perth catching up with childhood friend, Docker’s Luke Jackson, during their win over Essendon.

“He was all right - could’ve been a little better here and there,” Travers told Seven after Fremantle’s win.

“I’m about to spend the next month in Melbourne with Josh (Giddey) and Dyson Daniels.

“It’ll be good competition. We always like going against each other, so it’ll be good.”
