Port Adelaide are set to take no mercy on a rebuilding West Coast, with Power coach Ken Hinkley declaring star duo Zak Butters and Charlie Dixon will be passed fit for next weekend’s season opener.

Butters is set to play in next Sunday’s clash at Adelaide Oval after overcoming an ankle injury he suffered early in the Power’s pre-season clash against Fremantle clash earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Dixon has been managed through the pre-season as they look to get the veteran forward through another season.

But Port will be without young forward Ollie Lord, who made his debut in the Power’s 40-point win over the Eagles last year, after he sustained high-grade bone bruising on his knee and an impaction fracture in his tibia at training on Saturday.

The Power, who finished in the top four last season, are overwhelming $1.07 favourites with TABTouch to beat last year’s wooden spooners in the Eagles at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Hinkley said he had no intention of resting any stars despite their favouritism and Butters’ availability was “a forgone conclusion” as far as he was concerned.

“This competition is so brutally tough and close no matter who you play and when you play you have to play your best players,” Hinkley told ABC.

“You would never take a chance not to take on any team or any game you play so you put your best players out there as often as you can.

“We don’t typically just choose the rest scenario based on anyone we play or whoever we play, we rate the competition too highly.”

Hinkley said Dixon might not be at his best but would be ready for round one but backed him to play.

“He may not be quite at his absolute premium condition-wise, but he’ll be at his fiercely competitive best and he’ll grow from there,” he said.

Hinkley ruled out Subiaco product Mitch Georgiades for the clash with the high-flier coming back from a knee reconstruction, but said the forward was not far off playing.

“We’re not that far away from playing Mitch,” Hinkley said.

“Mitch is ticking off the last box or two, he won’t play next week but any week after that if he comes out and demonstrates that he’s ready to play we’re not going to be fighting to pick Mitch.”

Lord’s injury is set to open the door for Jeremy Finlayson, who earned two Brownlow votes after booting five goals against the Eagles last season.
