Spectres pressure key to win

Port Hedland’s hotly contested netball season continued with round three at the Faye Gladstone Netball Courts on May 14.

In the A-grade competition, the Spectres were able to hold off Lynx in their low-scoring, pressure-filled clash to score their first win of the season.

Both teams relied on strong defence to build pressure with Spectres leading 14-10 at half-time.

The second half continued this trend, and both teams defended well and made scoring difficult, with Spectres coming out on top at 25-17.

Speaking after the game Spectres coach Leanne Ruster said pressure was key to their win.

“The guys did a really good job, they put a lot of pressure on the other team and were really consistent,” she said.

Ruster said even though they were a good team, there were still areas they could improve.

“Their driving towards the goal, and just a bit louder in their talking, they talk well but maybe just a little bit louder,” she said.

In the other A-grade game, Illusions defeated the Dragons 40-33.

Both teams attacked early in the tight contest with Illusions holding a three point lead at half time, 22-19.

In the second half the Illusions came out strong breaking out to a seven-point lead to get their second win of the season. 40-33.

In B-grade, Lynx defeated Dragons 31-22, and Illusions beat Spectres 37-29. In C-grade, Illusions overpowered Lynx 40-17, while Eagles beat Spectres 31-28.
