Canterbury coach Trent Barrett will spend the next 24 hours contemplating how to name a team to face Canberra after two players required medical assistance in hospital on Sunday night.

Lachlan Lewis and Corey Allan were both taken to hospital after sustaining injuries during the 32-12 loss to St George Illawarra, adding to the already exhaustive casualty list at the Bulldogs.

Lewis was cleared of internal organ damage after fears of a lung issue, but is waiting on scans to confirm the extent of a rib injury.

There is huge relief for Allan after the winger taken carted from the field in a stretcher and neck brace after hitting the ground hard in a four-man tackle.

On Monday morning the club said Allen was cleared of a serious head or neck injury but he has suffered a grade two AC joint injury which will sideline him for up to three weeks.

Prop Ava Seumanufagai failed a head injury assessment and will need to pass concussion protocols to play the Raiders in their Magic Round clash in Brisbane.

Already the Bulldogs are missing Josh Jackson (calf), Jayden Okunbor (knee), Jack Hetherington (suspension), Jeremy Marshall-King (foot), Raymond Faitala Mariner (foot) and Dylan Napa (shoulder) from their starting NRL side.

"We're in a bit of a hole," Barrett said.

"Those blokes, it's 50 per cent of your starting side, really."

Napa is the only injured player with hope of returning to face Canberra, with Barrett saying he will struggle to name a team.

"We'll do our best," he said.

"We pulled six blokes out of the Mounties game (NSW Cup) today because of the COVID thing, because if they played today and we got the injuries, they'd have to go into quarantine because they broke the bubble.

"It's just what it is at the minute."

The team Barrett wants to name and the team he does pick on Tuesday will be vastly different.

Barrett benched halfback Kyle Flanagan at halftime against the Dragons but was forced to bring him back on once Lewis was taken off the field.

He said young halfback Flanagan needs to bounce back quickly this week.

"We have to, we all have to. Kyle isn't the only one," he said.

"There's 17 blokes in a team and we all have to perform, but we've all got different role to play too.

"If we're not getting the job done we have to think about making some changes.

"We'll address that through the week."
