Fremantle could have an addition to their remarkably-short injury list, with their first pick in last year’s draft having an appearance for Peel Thunder brought to an early end by a knock.
Adam Sweid, the club’s top selection in the 2025 draft at No.25, was not sighted in the second half as the Thunder’s reserves took on West Perth at HIF Health Insurance Oval in Joondalup.
After the ladder-leading Thunder smashed the last-placed Falcons by 88 points in the later league game, the Dockers confirmed Sweid had suffered a knock to the knee, which was not anticipated to be serious.
An unprecedented selection squeeze brought upon by Fremantle’s remarkably healthy list has forced Sweid back into the WAFL reserves in the last two weeks, with the amount of Fremantle-listed players Peel are permitted to field in their senior line-up capped.
Last week, the 18-year-old — who has played nine league games for the Thunder this year but is yet to make his AFL debut — pressed his claims for a recall by winning a game-high 34 disposals against East Perth.
A half-forward who is also capable of pushing through the midfield, Sweid was a member of Essendon’s Next Generation Academy as a junior, but the Bombers did not match Fremantle’s bid on him at the end of the first round of last year’s draft.
Meanwhile, another untried Docker Tobyn Murray did not feature at all in the league contest, despite being named in Peel’s initial side released on Friday.
The Dockers confirmed the speedy forward, who was plucked out of Geelong’s VFL program last year, was withdrawn due to a calf complaint.
Fremantle had only one player on their injury list in forward Sam Sturt last week, but the pair may figure as fresh additions when their next update is released on Tuesday.
Sturt had initially been slated to play limited minutes for the Thunder’s reserves on Saturday before re-aggravating a quad injury during the week.
